Altius is a diversified natural resources business based in Newfoundland and Labrador, its activities include the generation and advancement of mineral resource related projects located in Eastern Canada.
Altius generally prefers to create partnerships or corporate structures related to the opportunities it generates, which results in the carrying of minority and non-operating project or equity interests and/or royalty interests.
The Company holds an effective 0.3% production stage royalty interest in the Voisey's Bay nickel-copper-cobalt project in Labrador which since its acquisition has generated in excess of $15 million in revenues for Altius. The mine life at Voisey's Bay is estimated at ~25 years, thus enhancing the Company's ability to minimize equity dilution risk while maximizing the number of project generation opportunities that it can advance.
Altius carries out mineral exploration using a grassroots project generator
business model. This involves the identification of prospective projects and
regions and their advancement through early stage and relatively low-cost
exploration activities. When a project achieves a stage of substantial merit the
Company generally chooses to enter into agreements with other exploration and
mining companies that allow the incoming party to earn a majority project
interest by taking on the financial obligation and technical challenge of
advancing the project. The model has worked well and gives Altius exposure to
multiple projects while minimizing risk to its capital structure.
Altius continues to target a variety of commodities which are of interest to the
world's major mining companies in Eastern Canada but has also begun to expand
its exploration business to other prospective jurisdictions in Canada, including
Quebec and Nunavut, and outside Canada, in Alaska and Arizona.
The Company currently has ten active earn-in agreements or exploration
alliances with various third parties.
